From the makers of popular blog sites of WordPress and Tumblr, Automattic developed Simplenote as a free-of-charge note-taking utility tool for desktop use. This project management software allows you to jot down all the important ideas, notes, or reminders you have in your mind. It automatically updates every change you apply across all your devices, in real-time. On top of that, collaboration is possible here as it enables you to share a to-do list, post some instructions, or publish notes online.
Is Simplenote secure?
Unfortunately, this note-taking software is hugely lacking in security and privacy features. Even the developers don't encourage you to keep any confidential information within this app as the contents of your notes are unencrypted when stored here. If you are one of the users that value this type of feature, you can opt to download Evernote or OneNote instead. The mentioned programs are equipped with better security measures such as two-factor authentication and AES 256-bit encryption.
At the same time, Simplenote falls short in advanced features. It offers no template design and no variation of note type—the only option available to use is the blank note. You can insert a checklist but it is incapable of providing a reminder. Once you place a text, the lack of customization settings to format or refine it further becomes noticeable. Also, it gives no option to tweak the font type but, font sizes can be altered.
To be fair, there are still some tools that save this program from being impractical. For one, the markdown editing format that it serves to its users is especially notable. Its customized tagging wherein you can add tags for instant searching of your notes is very helpful. Moreover, every change that you did is backed up so, you will be able to see what you noted from one week ago, all the way back to even a month.
Extremely basic
Simplenote is only recommended for users that need to do plain and basic note-taking. If you just need a platform wherein you can immediately jot down what you have in your mind then, this tool is sufficient enough. Otherwise, if you are looking for a powerful project management program that contains advanced features and guarantees security and privacy, it is more suggested for you to download EverNote or OneNote.
